Walking Breaks

For many, the type of work they carry out dictates that there will inevitably be a good chunk of their working day where they are physically inactive. This could be at a desk, checkout, reception or driving.

But we know this isn’t good for you.

Building 5 – 10 minute walking breaks into your working day has a host of benefits: –

  • increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness
  • reduced risk of heart disease and stroke
  • improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes
  • stronger bones and improved balance
  • increased muscle strength and stamina
  • reduced body fat
  • stimulates better mental health
  • And, can improve productivity and engagement in the workplace

The health and wellbeing of employees is very much high on the agenda for most employers. Encouraging employees to take a closer look at their lifestyle will reduce absenteeism and stress on other work colleagues picking up extra workloads.

So, to start up a programme of walking breaks, either on your own or as a group activity can only be a good thing.

Putting it simple, walking is good for you and is one of the easiest and most accessible types of exercise that almost everyone can participate in.

Here at The Survey Initiative, we actively encourage our people to take regular breaks throughout the day, to get away from their desks and screens for a while.
