To Slipper Or Not To Slipper

In the headlines recently, there’s been talk about introducing new laws to make dress code in the workplace equal. This follows various cases where women have either been fired or sent home for not wearing high heels at work, sparking debates over whether employers are playing fair when it comes to workplace apparel and whether it is in fact legal to impose a rigid dress code.

Sure, as a business, there has to be some kind of policy on what is acceptable attire. Consideration has to be given to health & safety for instance, the amount of contact an employee has with customers, or whether the way in which someone dresses is representative of the organisation they work for showing a degree of professionalism. And of course, for many organisations, standards have to be maintained.

Beating The New Year’s Blues

After the over indulgence of the Christmas and New Year period, it’s no wonder that for many, the return to work and the prospect of dodgy winter weather, motivation to get things done can be affected.

The connection between how employees feel and how an organisation performs is now beyond question. Anything that has a detrimental effect on employee engagement and productivity levels should most certainly be addressed.

Of course, we can’t change the fact that we have to get back to work or how the winter weather is going to be. If your people are turning up with the New Year’s blues, then organisations should look to boost the mood and lift spirits in the workplace, thus helping to increase employee engagement and productivity levels.
